Hunting

Hunting is a regional tradition that spans generations. This is waterfowl country. Its signature is on numerous bill boards, t-shirts, restaurant signs and store fronts. The area's abundant fresh and saltwater marshes attract sportsmen from around the United States each year to participate in world class waterfowl hunting.

Big game hunting includes whitetail deer and sika deer. Small game hunting for wild turkey, quail, rabbit and dove is also popular here. Spend a day in the field hunting along a historic tidal creek or sit in a mature forest waiting for the elusive wild turkey.

  • Maryland Department of Natural Resources: Hunting
  • Wellington, Vaughn or Deal Island State Wildlife Management Areas are great for deer, ducks, dove or turkey.
  • Try Assateague Island National Seashore (National Park Service) for exotic sika deer hunting.

Black powder hunt for deer during the early season rut; try to outsmart a tom turkey in the spring; or nudge a canoe in the reeds for some memorable fall waterfowling. Hire a guide and go out into the bay for sea ducks or diving ducks.
